We suggest three days for Edinburgh’s Old Town, cultural sights, and a contrasting neighborhood. Add separate days for Highland or other regional excursions. A long coach journey should not replace the time needed to explore the city itself.
The Royal Mile links the castle and Holyrood end of the Old Town, but major interiors each need time. Split it into manageable blocks if visiting both. Give the New Town or Leith another outing instead of repeating several similar Old Town tours.
Old Town offers atmosphere; New Town and other connected areas provide different bases. Compare the actual luggage approach from Waverley or your tram stop. Nearby on a map can still mean steep streets or stairs.
A castle visit, underground tour, and ghost walk can complement one another, but compare their stops first. Check timed admissions and current venue access. Keep an outdoor hill walk flexible around conditions rather than placing it between two nonrefundable bookings.
