Suggested trip lengths and day groupings below are our editorial starting points. Your personalized plan will depend on your interests, pace, and dates.

How much time to allow

Allow seven to ten days for two or three connected German stops. A northern city route and a Bavarian mountain journey should not be compressed into the same short break.

Choose a connected route

Choose Berlin with a nearby cultural extension, a Rhine route, or southern cities and landscapes. Intercity connections help, but station transfers and hotel changes still take time.

Where to base yourself

Stay near practical local transport rather than assuming a central-looking hotel serves every sight. Rural castles and walking areas may need another connection from the nearest town.

Before booking

Check actual train routes and priority museum admissions before fixing daily tours. Compare castle interiors with grounds-only visits. Leave a transfer day lighter instead of adding several timed bookings after arrival.
