We suggest five to seven days for one Idaho region. Combining the northern lakes with central mountain towns and Boise needs a longer trip; these are different parts of a large state.
Choose Coeur d’Alene and the north, Boise and southwest outings, or a central route around Stanley and Sun Valley. Road geography matters more than how close the mountains appear on a statewide map.
Sleep near your planned river launch, trailhead area, or lake. A city hotel can suit museums and dining but may be a poor base for repeated early departures deep into the mountains.
Check river conditions, guide requirements, and seasonal road access with local operators. Match rafting or cycling to your group’s ability. Leave space around outdoor days for changes rather than relying on an exact finishing time.
