How many days in Kathmandu?

We suggest three full days for a first city stay, adding separate time for trekking or trips farther afield. Two can suit a selective cultural visit. Count the day you return from another region conservatively rather than assuming it leaves enough time for a fixed afternoon tour.

Start with a focused central route

Asan and Thamel offer a useful starting area for exploring central Kathmandu. We would choose one guided introduction and leave room to investigate smaller streets at your own pace. The Garden of Dreams provides another option to consider nearby, subject to current visitor information.

Spread heritage visits across the stay

Compare the places covered by your cultural tours before booking more than one. A full highlights circuit may duplicate several visits you intended to buy separately. Give the most important site room in the schedule, and include the journey between stops rather than treating each admission as the whole activity.

Choose the base around pickup and rest

If staying in Thamel, check the actual access point for your driver and the route with luggage. Compare quieter accommodation against the convenience of your evening plans. Before a flight, road departure, or trek pickup, keep the preceding activity flexible so that a late finish does not put the next leg at risk.
