Suggested trip lengths and day groupings below are our editorial starting points. Your personalized plan will depend on your interests, pace, and dates.

How much time to allow

Allow a week for the Bay of Kotor and a mountain extension. A short break works better around one coastal base than a complete coast-to-mountains circuit.

Choose a connected route

Explore Kotor and nearby bay settlements together. Lovćen or Lake Skadar can add contrast; Durmitor deserves a separate stay with its mountain journey included.

Where to base yourself

Choose a bay base for waterfront outings and a mountain base for repeated hiking days. Parking and access to old-town accommodation matter when traveling with luggage.

Before booking

Allow extra time on winding roads and avoid a demanding hike immediately after a long transfer. Check mountain conditions and boat departure points; a coastal excursion does not necessarily cover the national parks.
