Planning notes by The Travel Insights · Updated 2026-09-10

Suggested trip lengths and day groupings below are our editorial starting points. Your personalized plan will depend on your interests, pace, and dates.

How many days in Phnom Penh?

We suggest two full days for an introduction, or three if you want more cultural visits and time between them. A single-day itinerary should be selective. Arrival and departure arrangements can consume much of a short stay, so judge the time left after transfers before adding another booking.

Give Tuol Sleng time and attention

Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum is the memorial site of the former S-21 detention and interrogation center. We would give it a dedicated block and leave unstructured time afterward. Read the museum’s visitor information and consider the nature of the material when deciding how it fits your group’s day.

Balance the rest of the stay

Put another cultural visit or food experience on a different part of the schedule rather than turning the entire trip into consecutive guided stops. Compare the routes of city highlights tours so you do not pay twice for the same visits. Leave space for meals and independent exploration.

Check the pickup and return locations

Choose accommodation by access to the places you intend to visit and the practical journey on arrival. An excursion outside the center needs a full transfer allowance even when it is sold as a Phnom Penh product. Keep your final day close to the base if an onward departure limits your flexibility.
