We suggest two or three days for Venice itself, adding a day for lagoon islands. Staying overnight allows a less hurried schedule. Bridges, winding streets, and boat connections make a simple-looking route longer than a straight line on a map.
St Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace belong in the same broad area, but each needs time. Reserve a different block for Dorsoduro or Cannaregio. Choose one longer neighborhood walk instead of repeatedly returning to the main square between bookings.
Compare the station or boat stop with the hotel’s exact address, counting bridges and steps. Staying on the historic islands offers different evenings from a mainland base. Include the connection each day if choosing the mainland.
A gondola ride is different from a vaporetto journey or a lagoon excursion. Check departure points and what interior admissions are included. Before traveling, consult the city’s current access arrangements for your dates rather than relying on an old description of exemptions or fees.
