Start with ability and instruction

List who needs lessons and what each person can comfortably ski. Compare learning areas, instructor availability and the journey from your accommodation before choosing a resort by size alone.

Compare the whole stay

A lesson, lift pass, rental and hotel are usually separate decisions. Read every inclusion and exclusion. A mountain sightseeing ticket should never be treated as a ski holiday package.

Build a shortlist

Research Zermatt and Crans-Montana in Switzerland, Chamonix in France, the Dolomites in Italy and Innsbruck in Austria. The right choice depends on exact terrain, access, dates and your group; this is a research shortlist, not a ranking.

Include the non-skiers

Check locally operating railways, village activities and designated winter paths for your dates. Do not assume a summer hiking route is suitable in winter.

Leave flexibility

Weather and operating conditions affect both skiing and sightseeing. Check official resort information before departure and plan some days that do not rely on one specific lift or excursion.
