Plan your trip to Florida

Planning notes by The Travel Insights · Updated 2026-09-10

Suggested trip lengths and day groupings below are our editorial starting points. Your personalized plan will depend on your interests, pace, and dates.

How much time to allow

Allow a week for one main Florida focus, or ten to fourteen days for a selective multi-region trip. Theme parks, Miami, the Keys, and the Panhandle require different bases and substantial travel.

Choose a connected route

Choose Orlando plus a nearby coast, or Miami with a planned southern extension. The Keys deserve their own road journey and overnight time. Avoid treating Key West as an easy stop between mainland attractions.

Where to base yourself

Choose a theme-park hotel around the parks actually included in your tickets. A beach base suits downtime but may involve lengthy excursion pickups. Compare the precise address with the day’s first activity.

Before booking

Check park admission conditions, boat departure points, and weather-related changes. Wildlife excursions and beach time offer different experiences from urban tours. Keep long driving days free of tightly scheduled evening bookings, especially before an onward flight.
